The Rede of the LOLcats Wiccae

Several of those on my f'list will have already seen this, but it's much too funny to not post about. If you have any familiarity with the poem "The Rede of the Wiccae", it's priceless.
LJ is not doing what I'd like with links, so you'll have to either go to
elisem's LJ and look for the late-January entry titled, "Not... my... fault...," or cut-and-paste to your URL bar: http://elisem.livejournal.com/1191707.html (unless it translates to a link automatically; I don't expect it to, but I don't always figure these things right).
If you want to compare with the original, it can be found at http://www.wiccanrede.dreamhost.com/wiccae.html . Or, if you read the comments on Elise's post - which is worth doing if you have the time; some of them are pretty funny too - IIRC she gives a link in one of her responses.

Date: 2008-02-16 01:10 pm (UTC)I don't "get" the LOLcat meme in the sense of "getting" lengthy translations - I don't find LOLspeak humorous enough in and of itself for that to make sense to me. Translation of the Bible? As humor, it's gonna wear thin (about the point when Adam and Eve are getting evicted, which puts us, what, about 2% of the way in?). So I suspect it comes not from the funny bone but from the same drive that led folks with a different obsession to translate the Bible (and gods know what-all else) into Klingon. Or, well, hell, this is me, talking to you, so maybe it does have humor, the kind neither of us has a sense of; what wears thin is Poetic Truth.
It's the Poetic Truth part, I think, that hooked me on LOLmemes - and I suspect I'd become un-hooked from surfeit if I spent an evening reading "I Can Has Cheezburger?" I never have; I get my LOLsupply in small doses, direct from producers with highly-tuned senses of irony. (I didn't set it up that way with conscious intent; it just sorta worked that way - a combo, I suppose, of how lazy/sieve-brained I am about going back to "this looks cool, I should check it in more detail sometime" bookmarks, and having the taste you might expect me to have in selecting my f'list.) And, come to think of it, the irony always ties in with something else I'm interested in - as with Feathered Frog's computer-geek LOLcats (he's not obsessive, so there's only about half a dozen or so), or the deity-related, usually non-feline, ones in the (low-traffic) LOLgods LJ community. I think the Rede one is the first time I've cared that much about one that isn't a caption; that, obviously, is because it pokes gentle ironic fun at a well-known bit of witchy liturgy.
Long reply, but I've been wondering myself WTF it is that I like about them - on the surface, it doesn't seem at all like my thing - so it was nice to have some insights triggered.

(Then again, since I wrote it in the first place, it might be a most appropriate wrongness....)
"New Relationship Energy drama meltdown: DO NOT WANT!"
Oh, dear. This is how the other one got started. Must. Resist. Temptation....

Date: 2008-02-17 09:09 pm (UTC)I'm glad the compersion essay is helpful for you. I've long maintained that there's very little about polyamory that doesn't have application of some kind in other relationships.
Unless my life, and/or my intellectual diet, takes an Odd Turn (which does happen at intervals), it looks like the next pool I'll be "Makin' Waves" in will be feminist issues - I'm guessing you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for that.
